Times Like Dying

Hey oh! A little while back, we wrote and recorded music for the post-Civil War South film, "Times Like Dying." It's a short film directed and written by some friends of ours and its awesome. It also won a bunch of awards at a ton of film festivals, as evidenced by all those little laurel leaf award symbols right under the play button... you know, the ones that you see on all the really great movies. You can watch the film below. Giddyup!

Holiday House Shows:

Essentially, we're getting on the road to play house shows of Christmas songs from our new Christmas record, plus a few other songs from our other records. Here's a few things to consider if you're interested in setting a show up for you and your friends:

  • This would be a private event for you and your group of friends. So you can invite whoever you want, as long as they can sit still for an hour of music.
  • This would need to be an indoor place to play. It could be a house, loft, apartment, studio, gallery or other private space that can safely and comfortably host your guests. It should be a place with a big living room, finished basement or large interior space that would be suitable for this event (i.e. your house). Ideally, this place would have a way to dim the lights, or better yet, no obtrusive overhead lights at all and just a few cool floor/table lamps around the room. Whatever the space is, it will be crucial in setting the mood of the evening.
  • These shows can’t be done outside. We most likely will be performing for you with no microphones or sound system; it’ll just be us, you, your friends, and a super intimate evening of music.
  • Feel free to do all the normal Christmas party type stuff. Wine, beer, finger food, gift exchange - we just ask that you and your guests are prepared to sit, relax, and enjoy and hour of music with no distractions.

If you’re interested please fill out the form below and we'll get in touch to discuss pricing and additional details. Thanks! We're looking forward to hanging out!

We’re looking for hosts interested in opening their homes this October for an hour of music. Sound like something you wanna do?

Submit your info in the form below!

Here’s what we’d need from you:

  • An indoor place to play. It could be a house, loft, apartment, studio, gallery or other private space that can safely and comfortably host 30-60 guests. It should be a place with a big living room, finished basement or large interior space that would be suitable for this event. Ideally, this place would have a way to dim the lights, or better yet, no obtrusive overhead lights at all and just a few cool floor/table lamps around the room. Whatever the space is, it will be crucial in setting the mood of the evening.
  • Plenty of parking for all guests in attendance. This could be street parking, a parking garage, or an offsite location where guests can park and easily walk, or take public transportation to the show. Also, your neighbors need to be okay with any additional vehicles being parked around your house.
  • A realistic number of how many people your place can hold. We’ll also need an honest assessment of roughly how many people you know that would want to attend as well? Much of the determining factor on where we play will depend on how many tickets we can sell. We’re a totally independent band and as so we have to fund this whole thing ourselves. It just wouldn’t make fiscal sense to travel 10 hours to play a show for 5 people, know what I mean?

A few things to consider:

  • Once the date for your show is nailed down, tickets can be purchased on our website so we are able to account for how many have been sold. After being purchased, the tickets can be downloaded and printed by guests.
  • These shows can’t be done outside. We most likely will be performing for you with no microphones or sound system; it’ll just be us, you, your friends, and a super intimate evening of music.
  • You should be cool with other guests in your area, that you may not know, coming to your place as well (unless you can sell out the whole show with just your friends and family).
  • We ask guests to arrive between 7:00 - 7:45pm. The show will start at 8:00pm and will run an hour to an hour and a half. We also will ask that everyone be out of your place by 10:00pm (these times can be modified in most cases if necessary).
  • Seating isn’t an issue. If you’ve got some chairs that’s fine, however floor seating works fine as well.
  • We will be promoting these shows on Facebook, twitter and our website. However, word-of-mouth is by far the best tool in getting people out. We would rely heavily on you for this.
  • Last but not least, throw everything we’ve already said out. We can also tailor this whole thing to you. If instead of charging by the ticket, you’d like to pay one flat show fee, invite whoever for free and go bonkers, we can oblige you. We can hash out the details for that when you get in contact.

What you get:

  • An hour or more of song, stories, laughs or tears (depending on how the night goes). Also, a free ticket for you and your sweetheart.
  • We’d like these shows to be events, a fun evening with out friends. Wine, beer, finger food, and pretty much whatever else you want to build this evening around works fine with us, as long as the music is the center of the evening.

If you’re interested please fill out the form below and we'll get in touch. Thanks! We're looking forward to hanging out! [form houseshow]

NEW ALBUM & VIDEO

Hello Friends! We are so pleased to announce the November 18th release of our new full length record, Colony of Bees, along with the record's first single/music video, "East of Tennessee," available right here, read on!

Wilmington, North Carolina indie-folk duo Beta Radio announce the November 18th release of their much anticipated sophomore studio album, Colony Of Bees. This record, the band's first full length recording in over four years, marks a subtle departure in style from their celebrated debut Seven Sisters - a record without label support and whose grassroots success was built largely on the back of internet radio stations Pandora and Spotify. The more layered and at times ethereal offerings on Colony Of Bees tread into new territory, but at the same time manage to effortlessly keep one foot firmly rooted in the Americana/folk arena that they have called home for many years.

The record’s first single/music video “East Of Tennessee” travels with the band across multiple North Carolina locales, traversing hundreds of miles from the beach to the mountains, visiting homes, family and recording studios along the way, and serving as a whirlwind tribute of sorts to their home state.

We're so excited for you to hear the new song, and can't wait for you to hear the whole album. It will be available on all major online distributors, and is available now for pre-order on iTunes. All pre-orders come with an instant download of the first single "East of Tennessee."

Love you, BR

Screen-shot-2013-11-13-at-9.33.12-PM.png

Hi there, Back in July our friend Scott came over to hang and shot a cool live video in our home studio. We chose to play an older song that some aren't as familiar with. The song, The Man Grows, is one of two waltzes that we wrote for the CW Network's show Hart Of Dixie. This version is different than the album version however - it's played in a 4/4 time signature (the album version was written in a 3/4 signature,  a.k.a.  a waltz).

Scott Seibold (the dude who shot and edited this video) splits his time between our hometown of Wilmington and Los Angeles. His projects have been featured in CNN, Denver Post, Time, Discovery, Mashable and Huffington Post. He's a gun for hire so give him all your money and in return you'll get the sweetest video edit of your life - scottseibold.com

EITHER WAY [OFFICIAL VIDEO]

When we were approached at the end of 2012 by filmmaker and friend Kevin Stauss to shoot a music video for one of our songs, we were totally on board. The only hitch was, we didn’t have any new songs ready to be released, and our first record had already been out over a year. Regardless, we didn’t want to pass up the opportunity, so we returned to Seven Sisters and decided on using the song “Either Way.” After planning for a few weeks we picked a location, a sweet little spot called City Club here in Wilmington, and shot all our footage on one February afternoon. We hope you enjoy it, and hope it will tide you over while we're hard at work on our next full length!

Hello All! Check out this awesome short film, featuring our song "Return to Darden Road", made by the super talented Tim Shisler at OnTheSnow.com:

Winter Comes To The Mountains: A Soulful Look at How Mountain Towns Celebrate the New Season The Denver Egotist  /  November 5th, 2012 About a month ago, Summit County local Rex Lint and Liam Doran pitched Tim Shisler of OnTheSnow.com a video project capturing the transition between fall and winter in the mountains. They wanted to shoot an annual Ullr bonfire that Liam hosts each season. The project was greenlighted and production began.

The timeline was short — less than a week — so the creators scrambled to come up with a script and music. After hearing a song by Beta Radio on Pandora, they tracked down the band and got them to agree to let them use their music. From then on, everything fell into place beautifully.

"In cities fall is the season of endings. In ski towns it marks a beginning. This is how we celebrate."

Hello all! In between releasing our last album Seven Sisters and now, Brent and I have taken little breaks over the past two years to do other things we were interested in, i.e. release a vinyl record, write some songs for network TV, eat some candy bars, record some Christmas music, have babies, work in our yards, feed our pets, etc., all the while, consistently writing and demoing for another record.  But now - through blood, sweat, and tears, and cheers, and jeers, beers and sears,  (yep, made a brief visit to SEARS dept. store last week for some SAWEEEEET new friday night duds!) we are now in the middle of crafting our next release for you!  We're super excited and hope you are too! Beginning in October, we're recording our first round of new songs.  We've got about 30 songs total that we're demoing, building up, and whittling down, and we think you'll love them!

For Seven Sisters, we had a handful of songs to be recorded in a hometown studio over two weeks, with plans for only a little six song acoustic EP.  That quickly turned into a more involved recording, with return trips to the studio, throw in a few home recordings to the mix and PRESTO, three months later we had what became Seven Sisters!  For this next recording we're doing the same thing, but we're also getting morefriends to help arrange string and horn parts, putting a little more time in what instruments to choose for every song, and who else to add to our little studio crew, and putting generally more time and care into everything about this recording, all for youbecause we love you more than you know!  Thanks for all your love and support these past two and a half years, we can't wait to show you whats next!!!

xoxo
